The THEATRE OF THE LONG NOW is a 100-year performance in which nature takes the leading role: each year, for the next century, one tree will be planted along a straight line cutting through Stuttgart’s urban landscape. Each tree carries a time capsule containing an artwork that merges with the tree over its lifetime. The website not only presents the project, but also serves as an archive, preserving the artworks in 100 corresponding virtual capsules.
A custom typeface was created for the identity, tailored to contemporary viewing habits and technical requirements. Alongside the regular cut, a matching mono style was developed. Beyond formal considerations, the design also addresses longevity — ensuring the typeface remains available in the long term and eliminating potential licensing issues over the 100-year lifespan of the project.
